OTP stands for One-Time Password. It is a security feature used to enhance the protection of online transactions and account logins. Here are key aspects of OTP:

• Single-use: an OTP is valid for only one login session or transaction. Once used, it cannot be reused. It typically expires after a short period, usually a few minutes.
• Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): OTPs are commonly used as a second factor in two-factor authentication systems, adding an extra layer of security beyond just a password. They reduce the risk of unauthorized access, even if a password is compromised.

An OTP is generated by an authentication server using a random or algorithmic process. It can be delivered via SMS, email, a dedicated app, or through hardware tokens.

The user receives the OTP on their registered device or app. During the login process or transaction, the user is prompted to enter the OTP. The system verifies the OTP against the one generated and sent by the authentication server.
